The issue of keratoconus will never go away as long as patients keep rubbing their eyes.
This is another presentation that is often missed, and I have seen it on occasion.
Keratoconus in the older population (define old, if you can).
I was taught (dogma) that keratoconus is a “young mans disease”…define young, define man, and define disease.
I have seen patients above 50 rub their eyes and develop focal keratoconus. It is real!!
Just because you are above 50, doesn’t mean you are immune from warping the cornea.
Then there is that other ectasia…Pellucid marginal degeneration. It isn’t glass like (pellucid) nor marginal.
Don’t let the names change how you think about the condition nor presentation.
